Salobrena is a working town with attractive new vernacular developments outside the old town. The old town, with its narrow streets, is fascinating for its compactness and a challenge when driving up to the castle, museum and restaurants!
Motril is the commercial centre for the area and is five minutes to the east. Along the coast to the west are various developments with marinas (Porto del Este) and beach restaurants. Almunecar has beaches, a water sports complex and nightlife for the more energetic.
The small villages in the foothills of the mountains inland from the coast are interesting and worth exploring. Unlike a lot of the Spanish coast the hinterland, with Granada at its centre, has a lot to offer the inquisitive.
